Firth of Forth: Ship attacked on 21 of november 1939
« on: 28 March 2025 02:06:29 pm »

Hello everyone

I am working on the biography of a submarine commander from my city, he was in charge of U-13. In his KTB, it is recorded that on November 21, 1939, he fired a torpedo at what he believed to be a destroyer, identifying its silhouette as a V&W-class destroyer. The attack took place at a distance of over 3,500 meters in the Firth of Forth area at approximately 03:15 AM. The target was heading into deep waters.

The torpedo detonated after running for 4 minutes and 15 seconds. Through the hydrophone, they heard multiple turbines approaching in the direction of the attacked vessel. For safety reasons, they withdrew from the area while submerged and were not counterattack

If you have any information about what might have happened or whether any ship was damaged in that area on that day, I would be very grateful.

Kind regards from Argentina
