RN & RM Officers service records - where to approach?
« on: 10 April 2014 10:51:16 pm »

It has just been brought to my attention that the address given for officers service records (Deceased) is no longer valid (Hayes, Middlesex). This means that some of the information given out on the Archives service records page is now wrong.

The Veterans agency now points enquirers to a https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records#service-records-of-deceased-service-personnel - nowhere can I find mention made of requesting records for anyone other than non-commissioned ranks.

Anyone know the new information so that the page can be updated with the latest addresses?

Thanks

The information has been updated - the Ministry of Defence has 'streamlined' the process for requesting service documents and this caused some confusion initially.

Now record requests for all deceased RN & RM personnel, all ranks/rates (after 1924), are handled by one authority; those still living are dealt with by two authorities, one for commissioned officers, the other for other ranks.

There is no change to the records held by the National Archive.

The 'Requesting Service Records' web page http://www.royalnavyresearcharchive.org.uk/Records_page.htm on our site has now been updated to show these changes.
