HMS Corfield
« on: 20 April 2020 11:31:04 am »

Hi all,

Mine destructor ship Corfield was mined and sunk 8 September 1941 off British coast. Do you know what time? Also who was his Commandant or Captain?
No crew losses. But do you know which ship rescued the survivors and number of them?

Thank you very much

Corfield was mined at 17.00, but not sink for another two hours

Commanding Officer was Lieutenant William John Tucker RNVR - he was court-martialled and reprimanded for negligence (he had taken the ship into area marked as dangerous) and abandoning his ship prematurely (ordered crew off immediately after mine exploded, but later returned when ship did not sink)
Armed trawler Sangarius took crew off
