Record of Service - Annotation Query

Capt Mike:
I have a copy of the Record of Service for the father of my son-in-law. In the column "Rating and Discharge" the penultimate annotation is "PO (A) (B), which I take to mean Petty Officer. However, the final a notion is "CA (B)".  Can anyone tell me what this stands for please?

If memory serves CA is Candidate Applying.
