Hi Richard,
The officer in question was (acting) Lieutenant Frederick Bell-Scott Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. He was attached to the Naval Intelligence Division (NID) from the summer of 1942.
In October 1942 the squadron was operating from RAF St. Eval, Cornwall so presumably he was on a mission to gather intelligence. Perhaps squadron records could shed some light on the missions flown during that month,
See Operations Record Books, Squadrons held at the UK National Archives -see
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse/r/h/C53068 this suggests that the log books still exist.
This all I can find on him, and this comes from t he Navy Lists for 1942.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Tony
