My Grandfather John Matthews Service Record shows October 20, 1902 as the start of his C.S. Engagement for 12 years - yet his record shows him being aboard The Northampton from July 1901 to 25 October 1901 as a B2e.
His date of Birth is listed as October 20 1884 yet I was told that he lied about his age to join the Navy, he was much younger. 
Is it possible to see his enlistment information to see the names of his parents and where he was born?

Continuous Service commenced at age 18, although you could join the Navy at this time aged just 15 - at 18 you committed yourself to 12 years service.  Before then he would have been rated as Boy 2nd Class (B2c) and then 1st Class (B1c)

I presume you have his Service Record? this should show his place of birth, but not his parents.     

Checking TNA, there are 16 men with the name John Matthews, with one showing dob of 20 Oct 84, and he gave his birthplace as Dublin

I do not believe any other enlistment info from this period has survived
