CERA messing arrangements on battlecruisers
« on: 04 February 2020 05:05:07 pm »

Hello everyone

I am researching my uncle, CERA HH Wood BEM, who was serving on the Repulse when she was lost in 1941.

I would like to know what the messing arrangements were for CERAs. The book "Battlecruiser Repulse detailed in the original builders' plans" does not show a separate mess for them, but would they have messed with the ERAs, the chief stokers and mechanicians, or the CPOs?

Thanks

Andrew

He would have been in the Chief Petty Officers mess - all Chiefs, of whatever branch, lived together in the same mess (except for the Master at Arms, who always had his own cabin), Petty Officers were the same, with all branches together.   Only the junior rates (leading rate and below) are in branch related messdecks.
