I was on HMS Victory a couple of weeks ago. On display is a facsimile ordnance inventory and one of the items is "Coins for Coining Guns - New Pattern - Hundred & Sixteen". I can find no reference to what "coining guns" means apart from in an obscure maritime reference book that mentions "coining guns in bad weather". Anyone got any ideas?
