I am new to this site and am hoping someone can help with a research issue regarding North Atlantic convoys from Halifax bound for Liverpool in early 1944. I am researching my Uncle's wartime activities and movements for publication. His name was Eric Curwain. He joined the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI-6) in 1938 and served in France, Poland, Norway, Italy and Canada. In Canada he served at Camp X in Ontario from early 1942 to early 1944 and I know that he returned to England in "early" 1944 aboard a "Cunard liner" from Halifax. I know that he was back in the UK by "early May," but I do not know his departure date from Halifax by convoy or his arrival date in the UK.

According to Convoyweb.org.uk there were only a limited number of convoys out of Halifax in the first few months of that year. Some were escorted by the RN and some sailed independently. I am trying to establish which convoy out of Halifax and which Cunard ship Curwain was on, in order to establish his date of departure from Canada and his date of return to England. The fact that he was on a Cunard ship narrows the search, because most ships in convoys out of Halifax at this time were not Cunard Liners, but I have been unable to identify any Cunard ship sailing alone or in a group of ships from Halifax during the period Jan. to April 1944, except one called the Andes. This was a troopship, but the strange thing about this ship is that in a comprehensive list of Cunard ships that I have, the Andes,was built for Cunard in 1852 and was eventually sold to the Spanish government.

Would anyone be able to help identify which Cunard ships sailed from Halifax between Jan and April 1944, or arrived in Liverpool before or during May, 1944? Secondly, would anyone have any knowledge of how one can identify passenger arrivals by convoy in Liverpool at this time, or passenger manifests for convoys at the Halifax end?
