Burial of a RN stoker - John Niland.
« on: 09 November 2024 06:07:38 pm »

Dear Forum members,

I am a volunteer researcher for the "In From the Cold Project"  www.infromthecold.org whose purpose it is to identify the graves of Great War servicemen who died due to their military service but are not formally commemorated on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) website. The role of the researcher is to obtain a range of evidence from a range of different sources and then submit the evidence to the CWGC for them consider and hopefully add the name to their database.

Once such case involves John Niland, a stoker in the Royal Navy. Born in 1870, he died on the 9th July 1921, aged 51. He lived 2 Burrard Road, London E16. His parents were Michael and Mary Niland. His death was registered in the West Ham registration district, Quarter 3, 1921, volume 4a, page 101. I have checked with the Essex Record Office to see if they have any information regarding John Niland but unfortunately they do not. I would be very grateful if anybody from the forum could provide any ideas or advice as to where I might be able to find out where he is buried.

If you require any additional information to process this request please just let me know.

regards,
Stuart Price
