HMS KING ALFRED ship's bell
« on: 17 November 2013 09:09:50 am »

Does anyone know the whereabouts or the disposal details of the ship's bell from the former RNVR officer training establishment, HMS KING ALFRED, at Hove and later Exbury House (Formerly HMS MASTODON) near Southampton after the war.

HMS KING ALFRED was paid off in August 1946 when Exbury House was renamed HMS HAWKE. So what happened to the Ship's bell?

The current HMS KING ALFRED was commissioned in 1994 when a new Royal Naval Reserve training centre opened at Whale Island in Portsmouth. The Unit is celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2014and and are interested to learn the fate of the bell with a view to possibly acquiring it.

Can you help?

G'day Spooks,

I have a mention of said bell at:

I usually search in Google images first in my own ship research.

Hi Rickless

Thanks for your speedy response; you have  indeed found a ship's bell fro HMS King Alfred. However..., what the article you quote fails to mention is, this is a 1/4 size replica which is on display at the King Alfred Leisure center in Hove. Sorry.

Hi,

I did try.

Is there not  a Portsmouth based HMS King Alfred?

Bit of a long shot but you never know.
