Hmhs Berbice

Can anyone help,I have a photo of my great uncle A.B W.G Smith on board Hmhs Berbice . The photo is captioned rest cure 1918. But I cannot find any record of such a ship. Any help would be appreciated

BERBICE was not a ship of the Royal Navy; she was a Royal Mail passenger ship built in 1909.  In 1915 she was taken over by the Admiralty for use as a hospital ship and was manned by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary; HMHS = His majesties hospital ship

Thanks for the info on H.M.H.S Berbice it has helped me in my research on my great uncle who unfortunately was killed in 1919 during the raid on Kronstadt harbour on CMB 79a
