I understand that the navy sold the Royal Naval School Blackheath to Eltham College at Fairy Hall in 1910. On a website originally written by Godfrey Dykes, he states that: "A new flagstaff was brought from the fortress at Kars besieged by the Russians in the Crimea War, and permission was given to fly the white ensign." The flagstaff was then duly installed at these premises. I am trying to establish what happened to it after the building was transferred to Eltham College. My interest is due to the fact that my father was a governor there in the 1970's and our son attended the school in the 90's.I have already contacted both Mr Dykes and Ken Sutton, the Curator RN Communications Branch Museum/Library. Unfortunately they were unable to assist me in this matter. Can you please answer my enquiry or direct me to the appropriate link?.
